The project consisted in the restoration of Gemona del Friuli Castle. The building was severely damaged during 1976 Friuli earthquake and since then there had been just some minor repairing interventions. The plan was to realize a structure with box-behaviour, made up of the existing masonry and concrete walls and of new concrete walls.
Experimental tests we conducted for the identification of the mechanical parameters of the existing structures and the results underlined the necessity for retrofitting of the existing structures in order to reach the required seismic strength and vertical loads strength.
In the end, at the top of the building a steel roof was designed.
